Samuel D. Melvin, CMPS®, is an industry veteran with over 15 years of mortgage and banking experience. He's seen the many changes that have occurred in the mortgage world, and has weathered them all. Samuel started as an underwriter for a major mortgage company. He quickly rose through the ranks of Bank of America, Metrocities Mortgage, and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage in various banking and mortgage executive positions, ultimately becoming a Regional Operations Manager, responsible for the entire back office of the mortgage department. But there was something missing. In many ways it seemed the big mortgage companies treated every client like a number, not a person. “If your loan didn't fit within their box, they couldn't always help you. There also seemed to be a lot of turnover among loan officers,” says Samuel. "It became obvious that many loan officers cared more about their paycheck than their clients' needs. They didn't always take the time to explain to their client what they were getting into. I wanted to change that. I really try to make a difference with my clients." Samuel has a passion for consulting clients and guiding them through the mortgage planning process. "Purchasing a home is usually the first and biggest investment people make, before they even consider stocks, mutual funds or retirement accounts. Why shouldn’t their home investment be the cornerstone of their overall financial plan? That's what my mortgage planning philosophy is all about, and it's what I try to do for every one of my clients. I truly care about the people I work with, and get overwhelming satisfaction in knowing that I've helped them accomplish their financial goals." Samuel is certified as a Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS®). Less than 1% of loan officers in the industry have obtained this designation. He has a BS in Economics from Arizona State University, and a Financial Planning Certificate through the College For Financial Planning (a master’s-level curriculum focused in Estate Planning, Tax Analysis, Investment Planning, Risk Management, and Employer Retirement Programs). A former volunteer instructor for Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Samuel conducts numerous seminars throughout the valley. He also teaches classes through the Lifelong Learning Academy of the Maricopa County Community Colleges on the topics of Money and Credit, Life After Bankruptcy, Improving Your Credit Rating, Homebuying 101: Financing Your First Home, The In’s & Out’s Of Reverse Mortgages, and a myriad of other financial topics. He is chapter president of the Society For Financial Awareness, a nonprofit organization committed to eliminating financial illiteracy. He also runs American Credit Restoration, LLC, a licensed/bonded/insured credit restoration and consulting company. Samuel has been married nearly 13 years to Janet, a registered nurse. They have one son, little Samuel, who was diagnosed with autism at 18 months old. They are committed to helping little Samuel survive and thrive in spite of his autism, and spread the message of autism awareness at every opportunity. Joining them recently in August of 2009 was baby girl Samantha. Samuel and his family reside in the Southwest Valley. ![]() Freedom Mortgage - 21043 N Cave Creek Rd.
